The Scar Revision Procedure

Dr. O’Mara performs scar revision procedure in his office procedure room at Facial Plastic Surgery of Beaumont, Texas. Procedure times average one hour. During the surgery, excessive scar tissue is removed and the skin edges are then meticulously sutured together to create a thinner, less visible scar. In some cases, post-operative steroid injections are performed to improve the results.

Scar Revision Recovery

The recovery after scar revision procedure may involve some minor swelling and bruising. Sometimes the scar will appear red immediately after surgery but it will eventually fade into a fine line. Sutures are removed after one week. Most patients are able to return to work within one week and can resume more strenuous activities and exercise within two to three weeks. It will take a year for the scar to fully heal and mature.
