While surgery cannot entirely remove a scar, it can minimize its appearance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Scar Revision Procedure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. O\u2019Mara performs scar revision procedure in his office procedure room at Facial Plastic Surgery of Beaumont, Texas. Procedure times average one hour. During the surgery, excessive scar tissue is removed and the skin edges are then meticulously sutured together to create a thinner, less visible scar. In some cases, post-operative steroid injections are performed to improve the results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Scar Revision Recovery<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The recovery after scar revision procedure may involve some minor swelling and bruising. Sometimes the scar will appear red immediately after surgery but it will eventually fade into a fine line. Sutures are removed after one week. Most patients are able to return to work within one week and can resume more strenuous activities and exercise within two to three weeks. It will take a year for the scar to fully heal and mature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Scar Revision Candidates<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For individuals who are bothered by an unsightly scar, scar revision can be a very rewarding procedure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"scar\" class=\"wp-block-group faq-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Scar Revision FAQ<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<button class=\"fm-toggler\" data-target=\"#kr80vbsoc29qq4ydlklbc\">I am a 27 year old black male. I am a 42 year-old African American woman and I read that women with darker skin have lower success rates with skin resurfacing, is that true?<\/button><div class=\"fm-toggle\" id=\"jk882glyi9dk2hw367l67d\">\n<p>In my experience, scar revision can be very successful if the scar is widened, depressed, or elevated, even in darker skinned individuals. I would not recommend skin resurfacing as a primary treatment for scars such as this, however, but possibly excising unwanted scar tissue and performing a scar revision surgically to minimize the visibility. If your scar is minimal but you want some improvement, I would recommend conservative dermabrasion treatment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<button class=\"fm-toggler\" data-target=\"#391ksrra25cwygkbmnvf1a\">I used to wear long heavy earrings for years. It is a relatively simple office procedure in which the scar tissue within the torn part of the earlobe is removed and the lobe is sutured together to recreate the natural curvature of the ear. Re-piercing the earlobe can be done approximately 6-8 weeks after repair. If you want to wear your mother\u2019s earrings to the wedding, schedule your procedure at least two months before the big day.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<button class=\"fm-toggler\" data-target=\"#816tv3mly7xh2oqcz3xjo\">I have a large scar on my upper left cheek that I would like removed. What is the process of scar revision? However, in general, scars that are wide, elevated, depressed, or aligned in an unpleasing direction on the face can be revised. There are several techniques to revise scars that include removal of the scar tissue and meticulous skin closure. The final result is a much less visible, thin, flat scar. Scar tissue is not completely eliminated after scar revision.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<button class=\"fm-toggler\" data-target=\"#1rqsx3c1emt6imma7pcjh8\">I am 30 and I\u2019ve always been embarrassed by my \u201cMarilyn Monroe\u201d mole on my upper lip.
